Our zines function as a way for us to communicate with our peers about our anxieties, identities and trauma. At the same time they help us deal and heal with our problems through reminders of self love. We take elements of popular culture to give difficult topics a more accessible.
We love the opportunity of sharing our thoughts, feelings, and ideas in a free way. We hope our work can touch other people's lives, encouraging them to feel more. We love community of artists that is slowly forming with zines. We think they have become an important part of our current culture.
There not many spaces where people can freely and openly express themselves directly. There is usually bigger entities stopping this from happening or barriers such as distance - like when we use a blog on the internet, there is often not a direct audience. Zines allow the author to directly interact with the audience and allows a freedom of expression that is often not found in mainstream media.
Zines offer the opportunity to give a direct voice to marginalized people, who often do not have a voice heard in mainstream media. They are accessible in terms of money, artistic, and directions to make them open to interoperation of the person who is making them . This allows a free dialogue between people.
