How do zines help you relate/connect to others?

Zines help us come together as a small community. Zine club is meant to be a way for people at San Diego State University who don’t necessarily feel like they belong to find their niche and grow in an artistic sense. The club is made of many people with different backgrounds and life experiences who have come together under the unifying message of love and DIY culture, and we do our best to spread it wherever we go.

What advice would you give to someone who wants to start making zines?

Start wherever you are, and work your way up! It can seem daunting sometimes when you put yourself next to big creators or people who make zines for a living, but you have to start small and find the right place for zines in your life! Everyone has a different fit, and a different style. We’re a small school club and we’re all students, so we have different schedules than someone who might be doing art full time. And that’s perfectly fine! Our zines are special because of that, and because we make an effort to take time to create something meaningful to us.
