I realize that as predominantly as an illustrator that I also wanted to share more than what I originally thought I could do, and zines are very much an accessible medium for me to explore to do so that doesn’t require me to follow a strict set of rules and allows me to explore a wide range of topics. They enable me to be vocal to a public audience in a way that I did not think I would be able to do elsewise.
There has been some interesting discourse about this medium lately, but one important thing to remember is zines are meant to be unconventional in the idea that you don’t need to have any formal publishing background in order to make a zine; it’s meant to be accessible, and literally anything you want to make of it to share, so if you want to start, just start making one. Jot down your ideas, doodle, collage, rearrange, but get down those first steps.
