Why do you make zines?

It's a fun, easy way to communicate our art and passions to others! We enjoy being able to share our work in a cost effective way that is accessible to the public. We also love the history of how zines came to be, and that they are a way to counteract the capitalist driven art world.

How do zines help you reflect your cultural identity?

It's a way for us to find out more to tell stories that are not usually told, and to center womxn's and immigrants' cultures. For example, Alejandra's zine: “Mother/Warrior” Two-color riso zine published by Tummy Books is about Strong Women in Mexican Folktales, including a short comic about La Malinche, the indigenous woman that translated for Cortez, and short story abiut my mom being named after the indigenous Papechuan warrior princess Erendira that fought the Conquistadores.
