I make zines to find kindred spirits. We're often told, or just assume, that spirituality is something we can find only within the bounds of the church or similar institutions. It's not true! Our spirituality is something we can create for ourselves. It's a vital part of what makes us human.
Graduating high school and realizing I needed a way to keep in touch with my friends! This was back in the '90s before the internet and social media were everyday things. I interviewed my friends about the garage bands they were in, music and food they liked, and other everyday stuff. It felt so good to collect it all into zines we could share with each other.
Be yourself and put it on the page. There's no right or wrong way to make a zine. If it feels right, go for it! Treat everything as a learning opportunity and you'll quickly get better and better at expressing your vision. Be generous with your work and it will come back to you.
