LBZF is proud to feature the Long Beach Public Library as a premier community partner!
The LBPL will have a lot of cool things going on during #LBZF16, including a demo booth featuring their 3D printer and on-the-spot library card signups, a zine library and reading room, and a hands-on make-your-own-zine workshop.
Since starting the collection with the LBZF 2015 zine library, LBPL librarian and LBZF co-organizer Ziba Perez Zehdar has been busy curating the library’s first circulating Zine Library (#LBPLZineLibrary), one of only a handful of zine libraries in circulation across the country.
The LBPL Zine Library collection will be exhibited at LBZF, and attendees can browse zines and read them in the zine reading room.
Attendees can also get a free 3D-printed “zinemark” by showing their library card! Don’t have a library card yet? Sign up for one on at LBZF and in addition to the zinemark, you will get a free zine, “Make a Zine at the Studio”, made for LBZF by the creative team in the lower level of the main library’s maker space called The Studio.
The Studio, LBPL’s innovative maker space, is free to all library members, and features tools such as their 3D Printer, a paper folding machine, and a letterpress. The Studio also features a full-time staff who are available to help people create anything from a zine to a stop-motion short film.
The library will also be hosting the LBPL Canopy in the Sculpture Garden featuring walk-up zine workshops all day.
Blank paper, discarded magazines/books to be cut up, pens and markers, a long-arm zine stapler, scissors, glue sticks, and more will be waiting to be turned into your own zine while you listen to bands jam out in the garden.
