What was the inspiration for creating your first zine?

I made my first zine in 1994. It was called Grow Up! Like my current publications it was inspired by underground comix of the 60's/70's and 80's. There was no popular zine culture at the time like there is now. It was very much an underground/ punk thing. So my inspiration to create one was to be connected to that scene and to have a part in the long line of comix culture.

What is your favorite part of making zines?

My favorite part of making the zines is creating the covers. I'm a printmaker by training and process and assembling is a pleasure. I hand print the covers and stamp images and words on them. I've worked at factories before and that assembly line mentality is pleasing to me. Creating images and comics is a shore as well as the hustle to sell and promote the books. Those two things are my least favorite activities in zine publishing.
