The Labor Camp
I use zines as a cathartic process. At 34 years old I'm still in awe of how freely I am able to express myself through writing and zine making. Whatever I'm going through at the moment - good, bad, ugly - can be molded into into an artifact that is completely representative of my unique, individual experience. They're paper human time capsules.
The process. Taking something you have in your head that doesn't physically exist yet, fleshing out the idea and bringing it to life exactly the way you imagined it. Seeing the finished product is cool, but by that point I'm already salivating over preparation for the next creative project. Forward ever, backward never!
Heed the tagline of America's most nefarious sport's apparel brand and just do it! Once you get started and realize that there's literally no one to stop you from conveying your individual message it opens your eyes to a realm of DIY wisdom that you'll be able to take advantage of for the rest of your days on this crusty old ball of soil and water we love to hate. Get busy!
