When did you start making zines ... and why?

Our group started making zines as a natural marriage between the creative writing workshop and the artists studio the Lamp Arts Program in Skid Row. Zines are a perfect medium for our hands on, creatives, wild, and handmade ideology.

How do you create your zine content?

Some of our zines are collaborations between all artists and writers in our studio. Others are done by single artists / writers who work in many mediums—collage, photography, and drawing—which they pair with poetry and essays.

What was your first zine called? What was it about?

Our first zine was called Sense / Self. It was a collection of paired self portraits, one written and one drawn (or painted or photographed).
