What are your current zines about?

Francine (Creamy Mija): My work combines digitally manipulated photos and graphic elements in an effort to convey or elicit human emotion via post-Internet compositions.
Velma (Spookyworld): A reflection of my body dysmorphia, depression, art, race, and gender issues.

What methods do you use to make your zine?

  • Handwritten/drawn
  • Cut-and-paste
  • Digital

What type of binding do you use for your zine(s)?

  • Saddlestitched
  • Hand-stitched

When did you start making zines ... and why?

Francine: I started making zines about a year and a half ago. Most of my art is digitally based, making zines has enabled me to present my work in a more accessible format.

How do you create your zine content?

Francine: Most of my content is created through photo editing apps on my phone.

What was your first zine called? What was it about?

Velma: "When I Was A Kid" Mostly a reflection of my depression and how I yearn for my childhood once again. At the same time remembering it was filled with sadness just as much. The art in this book was a mixture/ collection of my present day and kindergarten to mostly middle school art and diary entries.

What else do you want people know about you or your zines?

Velma: All my books are one of a kind and are never made twice. Everything in the books are by hand, including stitching.
